Characteristics of innovation: Perceived factors in adopting pellet heating technology
Climate change and the continuous need for alternative energy sources like biofuels has highlighted the potential for the technological alternative of innovative domestic household pellet heating systems for single-family houses. The diffusion and adoption of pellet heating system has been studied earlier but only scant attention has been given to the technological attributes in influencing adoption decisions. The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the customerspsila perceived factors in adopting pellet heating bioenergy technology in Finland. These factors are observed in relation to the adoption theories. The results indicate that the customerspsila adoption decisions are, at least partially, governed by technological attributes which can be attributed to existing theoretical models. The managerial implications of the results and avenues for future research are also discussed.
