COMPARISON OF RADIOMORPOMETRIC INDEX MEASUREMENTS IN THE MANDIBLE OF COMPLETELY EDENTULOUS ELDERLY AND MIDDLE-AGED INDIVIDUALS
Objective: The present retrospective research aims to investigate the effect of sex and age on radiomorphometric indices that enable the evaluation of changes in the mandible in elderly and middle-aged edentulous individuals.
Materials-Methods: One hundred twenty-eight edentulous individuals (64 females, 64 males) aged 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, and 75-84 years were divided into four age groups. The mental index (MI), panoramic mandibular index (PMI), mandibular cortical index (MCI), and alveolar ridge resorption degree in the premolar regions (M/M ratio) of these individuals were assessed with regard to age and sex on panoramic radiographs.
Results: A significant increase was detected in the MCI class with increasing age (p0.05). MI and PMI values in middle-aged and elderly individuals were affected by sex, and these values were found to be lower in females (p0.05). It was observed that the MCI class was lower in females in the 45-54 age group (p
