This review examines the current literature on factors influencing compliance with smoke evacuation. Factors identified included the design of the smoke evacuation device, surgeon refusal, education and managerial support. Strong leadership, education and policy enforcement from a local facility level are required to improve surgical plume evacuation compliance.
