Inaddition to thecommissionof traditionaloffences,suchasfraud,stalking,anddomesticviolence,newphenomenahaveemerged towarrantattentionfromthemedia,government,andcommunities.Thephenomenoncolloquially referredtoas‘revengeporn’standsasoneofthegreaterthreatstopublicmorality.Todate,legislative responsestocircumscriberevengeporn,bothinternationallyandinAustralia,havebeensporadicand disjunctive.Thisarticlecriticallyexaminestheimpactandprevalenceofrevengepornandprovides acriticalanalysisofthecivilandcriminalresponsestoitscommission.Itconcludesbyarguingthat addressingthechallengesassociatedwithinvestigatingsuchoffences,andeducatingaboutthedangers ofrevengepornhavetosomeextentbeenoverlookedintherushtolegislateandcreatenewoffences.
