An X Band Dual-polarized Shared Aperture Antenna Using Waveguide and Microstrip Antennas
In this paper, an X band dual-polarized shared aperture phased array antenna using waveguide and microstrip antennas is proposed. The vertically polarized ridge waveguide antenna operates at the frequency band of 9.5-9.9 GHz. The horizontally polarized microstrip dipole antenna is mounted vertically above the ridge waveguide antenna and operates at the frequency band of 8-12 GHz. In order to achieve large scan angles, the shared aperture antenna is tightly integrated using a deep ridge waveguide and back-to-back arrangement of microstrip dipole antennas. The waveguide antenna can scan at least 20 degrees in one dimension; moreover, the microstrip dipole antennas can scan 60 degrees in two dimensions.
