There has been a problem of overspending or underspending budgets in public hospitals. This has negatively impacted the delivery of health services. The study aimed to improve the effectiveness of budget control in public hospitals. The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of budget control in public hospitals in Limpopo Province, South Africa. The study used quantitative research method. A sample size of 120 participants was drawn from a population of 240 participants. Survey questionnaire was used to collect data from participants in the public hospitals. The results of the study showed that budget control is a management challenge in public hospitals in Limpopo Province.
