Portable lung function system operating on iPhone using innovative solid-state technology
This project aimed to improve the way in which patients, with certain respiratory diseases, monitor lung function. The main objective was met by developing an innovative solid-state sensor using the principals of ionization to measure lung function. The sensor proved to produce viable results and that the possibility of calibrating is possible after an experiment was done to determine whether the sensor can be calibrated. The sensor connects to an application on an iPhone, giving the user the ability to monitor lung function, as well as ensuring that the lung function meter is portable. Measuring lung function with the help of solid-state technology, as discussed in this paper, would certainly improve the lives of people living with chronic respiratory conditions. The sensor could give people living with asthma the possibility of detecting asthma flare-ups early. Monitoring lung function would also track how a patient's medication is working and allow a doctor to safely step up or down on dosage.
