Uso de modelos 3-D de superficies esclero-corneales (SEC) sintéticas para el aprendizaje teórico-práctico de la adaptación de lentes de contacto rígidas
In this paper we present the procedure for the design and 3-D printing of Sclero-Corneal Surface (SCS) models based on real ocular morphological data and its use in the Optometry laboratory of the Optics and Optometry Degree in the practical classes of Advanced Contactology. Learning about what is a correct fitting of rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses (CL) is acquired through the theoretical study of examples of adaptations and the subsequent practice of different and repeated placements of RGP CLs on human SCSs. This learning procedure is limited by the impossibility of repeated use of some LCs due to the need to disinfect them, the lack of ease in placement that reduces practice time, the discomfort suffered by the student-patient (SP) that prevents supporting certain CLs and the lack of varied geometries of SCSs between the SPs causes a learning deficit since multiple scenarios are not available. The use of SCS models as an ocular surface in which to test different RGP CLs resolves these limitations in addition to strengthening the student's training on geometric parameters by getting involved in the design and manufacture of the models.
