In this paper, we tackle the problem of greening optical networks under scheduled traffic model with good resource used performance in terms of the number of wavelength-links used. We propose a power-aware routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) scheme to allow operators to tune the three factors of link distance, network device power consumption, and the resource used during RWA so that we can power off or sleep the network devices during periods of low utilization.
