Through his relation with genre literature, Borges was able to reformulate a field of reading in which publishing houses that considered themselves serious mistrusted the so-called minor genres, carrying on a program already present in Modernism and Avant-garde but for the extra task of adapting that program to an eccentric context. At the same time, Borges establishes a critical relation with those genres when he makes them work with high culture, as it follows from his own dealings with fantastic literature and detective stories, alongside with the publication of anthologies of each genre, as well as the co-direction of the collection El Séptimo Círculo. All this helped in the configuration of an ideal reader able to confront different canons.
