Spontaneous symmetry breaking in a waveguide with periodic complex potential
A nonlinear active waveguide with periodically changed refractive index and periodically modulated effective gain is considered. The spontaneous symmetry breaking bifurcation of spatially uniform stationary states is investigated. The formation of nonlinear structures on the backgrounds with broken symmetry is demonstrated.
