Evaluation of explosion resistance of ballistic polymeric materials
The article presents the results of an experiment in which selected ballistic materials were tested for explosion resistance to a blast caused by a high explosive explosion. Were used textiles from two manufacturers Teijin (Twaron, two fabrics laminated and three woven) and Honeywell (Spectra, one fabric laminated). In total 6 experimental samples were made which were exposed to blast effects of a reference charge under the same conditions. In view of different areal density of individual selected materials "Relative punched layers" and "Relative number of punched layers" were determined as the quantitative criteria for evaluation of the experimenter. Comparing results of the experiment, it was possible to determine the most resistant material (Twaron CT 709/2) of selected materials. Results of the experiment brought new findings as well lessons and enriched knowledge about the behavior of soft ballistic materials exposed to the effects of blast.
