Discussions are given on the guidelines developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to minimize the risk to ships exposed to attacks from pirates. The initiatives taken to suppress piracy, armed robbery and other maritime crimes are highlighted. The UK's National Strategy for Maritime Security is described in terms of its objectives and methodology.
