History of Australian Phycology: The significance of early French Exploration.

The chronology of exploration in Australian waters is presented together with the names of the ships. the commanders and the scientists of the expeditions. Important literature dealing with the algae collected on these expeditions is tabulated and examples of algae are given. It is hoped that this will lead to the establishment of the provenance of type material. and show the importance of the French collections for Australian phycology. Brvopsis vesrita J.Ag. has been referred into the synonomy of B. rosae C.Ag.
