LABORATORY INVESTIGASTIONS OF MALARIA AND DIROFILARIASES FOR EPIDEMIOLOGICAL MONITORING IN TULA REGION, RUSSIA, IN 2012-2021
Twenty two imported cases of malaria from Africa have been reported in Tula region of Russian Federation in 2012-2021, of which two were with fatal outcome. The age of malaria patients ranged from 20 to 40 years old. Men prevailed among patients (85 %). There were 19 cases of Plasmodium falciparum, 2 Plasmodium ovale; and one of Plasmodium malariae. Cases have been verified by a reference centre. From 2012 to 2021 10 cases of dirofilariasis have been recorded in humans, a vector-borne helminthiasis of carnivorous animals transmitted by mosquitoes. The results of laboratory monitoring determined necessary measures of surveillance and prevention in relation to vector-borne parasitoses. Key worlds: malaria, dirofilariases, mosquitoes, vector-borne parasitic diseases, reference center.
