P007 Q-COMPENSATION BY LEAST SQUARES MIGRATION Summary 1 An efficient and stable poststack Q compensation method based on wavefield extrapolation and migration principle is presented. Our inverse Q filter compensates for both amplitude decay and phase dispersion and handles detailed Q variation with depth. A least squares extrapolation operator is used to stabilize the inverse filter. A real data example of Q compensation application shows higher resolution balanced spectrum and improved well ties. Introduction The earth absorbs energy as sound waves travel through. In seismic experiments wave scattering and inter-bed multiples also contribute to attenuation (O’Doherty & Anstey 1971). Regardless
