Development of a radar sensor for reducing the risk of bird collisions with wind turbines
This paper presents investigations on a radar sensor concept tailored for bird observation in direct proximity of wind turbines. The task is to monitor birds which live in the surrounding of a wind farm in order to stop concerned wind turbines in case of probable collisions. Experiments were performed leading to a proper characterization of the dynamic radar echoes of birds and wind turbines. A concept for a radar sensor has been derived from the results and findings of the experimental investigations.
