unDivided: An android application for anti-distracted driving
Modern technology has a great impact on people's lives. We use technology in different ways, and sometimes the way we use these various gadgets end up harming us and the society we live in. There has been growing evidence on the hazards of phone use while driving. This paper provides a tool that encourages undivided attention while behind the wheel. The application, named undivided, runs on several Android-based devices with GPS and communication capabilities. The mobile application for anti-distracted driving not only can block incoming calls and texts, users can add groups that can be mapped to the handling functionality like set auto reply message, reply SMS using speech to text, and reads incoming messages from identified contacts. It utilizes the background service that if the system detects that the speed is higher than the threshold, then the system triggers the application to auto-start. One can also change configuration settings where the user can change the number of repeated calls to advise the driver to pull over in cases of an emergency call. SMS messages will be sent to emergency contact list which is triggered by a button. It also displays markers for police, hospitals, emergency response units, and others similar services.
