And the innovations that can develop regional appeal as good practice are also created locally. The upcoming transformation process for the largely abandoned village of Morschenich-Alt, which is located in the southern foreland of the Hambach open-cast mine and which will no longer be used for mining due to the international climate protests about Hambach Forest, is to be discussed in this context. This article is a status-quo report on the local process and a call to action and practical design of the great transformation toward sustainability.
