The patch antenna is excited by a cavity backed slot. To improve the impedance matching, the patch antenna is truncated at each corner. The antenna shows the advantages of high polarization discrimination (XPD), low profile and simple configuration. To validate its performance, an antenna array composed of 2×8 of the proposed antenna elements is designed, prototyped, and tested.
