The article examines the problem of combining professional and parental functions of workers with children. Based on previous studies (a quantitative survey of working women in Sverd-lovsk oblast, in-depth interviews with working mothers), the research defines the main barriers preventing the optimal combination of two vital spheres — family and work. To overcome these barriers, a number of regulatory, organisational and material measures are proposed to support workers with children; they can be introduced into Russian practice as part of the state and corporate demographic policy.
