Screw worm fly

Following the Screw-worm Fly Emergency Preparedness Conference held in Canberra in 2001 numerous recommendations were made. They included enhancing surveillance, undertaking essential research to improve the potential of the sterile insect technology (SIT), updating the bio-economic model for a possible screw-worm fly incursion and resolving the management and coordination of the screw-worm fly preparedness strategy. It is now four years since this seminal meeting and an appraisal of some of the key recommendations and their implementation is considered timely.
