M. Dostoevsky's novel \"The Brothers Karamazov\" in the Z. N. Gippius’ works. The article presents an analysis of the short story \"Ivan Ivanovich and the Devil\" (1905) in this aspect. Much attention is given to the connection between the Gippius' text and the chapter of the novel \"The Brothers Karamazov\" \"The Grand Inquisitor\". It is shown that the short story \"Ivan Ivanovich and the Devil\" has a motif-thematic complex, which source is the poem \"The Grand Inquisitor\". It is determined that the motif-thematic complex of the \"poem\" is realized in the short story on the character’s level. The themes and motifs of the \"poem\" are connected with both characters of the story; therefore they are in constant intersection and significantly complicate the semantics of the short story. It is noted that the author of the short story focuses on the universal problems of the \"poem\". The article also describes the individual semantic dominants of the of Z. N.
