Experimental coatings for wood and steel panels were carried out on a laboratory scale. The fire retardant efficiency of both coating types was considered by using the limiting oxygen index (LOI) test. The flame retardants mechanical properties were also studied. LOI results showed that coating with a compound containing chlorine, nitrogen and phosphorus demonstrate a significant retardant effect when combined with epoxy varnish comparing with the blank sample, which not contain on the hexachlorocylodiphosphazane derivative as an additive. The hexachlorocylodiphosphazane derivative also exhibits mild results as a preservative against microbiological attack.
