Quick response (QR) codes have wide applications in e-commerce, human recognition and advertisement marketing. At present, these codes can also be used in industrial and agricultural production lines. The performance of QR recognition technology depends on the pre-processed QR images. A complex background hinders the location and recognition of the QR code. Therefore, this study investigates the performance of QR code recognition technology under complex background. A QR image pre-processing method that combines image grey processing, filtering, projection-based initial location, binarisation, feature-based precise location, image rotation and geometric correction is proposed. In addition, new ideas for initial and precise locations are proposed.
