A Comparison of Motorcycle Ownership and Use in Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok

In this paper, the author compares the motorcycle ownership and use in Ho Chi Minh city of Vietnam and in Bangkok of Thailand. By using collected data from the statistical office and ownership surveys conducted by the research group in Ho Chi Minh city and in Bangkok, the author firstly compare the vehicle ownership and modal share of the two cities with typical factors such as ownership, modal share, etc. The paper secondly uses Netlogo as a tool to predict the shares of public transport of the cities in the next few years. The simulation model predicts the shares of public transport usage of the two cities following affected factors including population density, the public transport using duration, mode changing probability, etc. The simulation model can be used to analyse the sensitivity of the modal shares to the time changes as well as other social factors.
