Working with waveform distortion micro computers to main frames
There is growing recognition of the problem of severe line voltage distortion , particularly by the electric utilities as evidenced by several recent articles including one by EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) . Computers, regardless of size , are sensitive to this distortion. Paradoxically, however, computers themselves are a major cause of the distortion and with their proliferation , the problem is compounding rapidly . This paper looks at the cause and effect and then describes methods of reducing the distortion to acceptable level . Both electrical and physical considerations are made.
