The Progress of Implementation of 4IR Technologies in KwaZulu-Natal
The capability to innovate and introduce new products and processes to the market has the potential to give organisations and companies a competitive advantage in the market. The nature and speed with which technologies aid this process are so fast, that to be able to thrive and impact economies, the adoption, deployment, and implementation need to be effective and efficient. In this research project, the progress of the implementation of 4th industrial revolution (4IR)-related technologies in priority sectors in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa was explored. The current study sought insights from technological capabilities, business process enablers, and economical factors viewpoints. The results show that the value of integrating 4IR in business is gaining impetus and the value derived from it is evident in the strategic direction and business focus. An index, with respect to enablers, skills and infrastructure and innovation, and research and development investment was developed to describe the progress and identify gaps that can be addressed to ensure the further entrenchment of 4IR in support of the KwaZulu-Natal economy.
