Experience of Induced and Resonance Voltage phenomenon in EHV Grid: Case study from Western Regional grid of India
Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission network in India is being augmented to meet the rising demand and to handle the challenges associated with the growing penetration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). It is inevitable that the transmission lines are installed using double circuit or multi circuit towers to minimize the Right-of-Way (RoW) requirement. However, voltage and currents can be induced into opened transmission lines by the electric and magnetic fields generated by the energized transmission lines located on the same tower or in the vicinity of de-energized transmission line. This paper presents a case study of observed induced and resonance voltage phenomenon while charging of EHV line in Western Regional grid and mitigation measures taken by system operator to facilitate the charging of transmission line. This case study also highlight the utilization of synchrophasors for analyzing the event and evaluation of mitigation measures.
