Towards the Implementation of Synchromodality along the Seine Axis
Road freight transport is predominant in France, making less space for river and rail transport. The trend towards modal shift from road remains slow, at the expense of massification and the environmental impact. Such is the case of the Seine Axis corridor, the aim of this study. Our starting point is the observation that the lack of modal shift is due in particular to the difficulty of organizing and visualizing the effects of combining different modes of transport. This paper presents an implementation of the modal shift on the Seine Axis by applying the synchromodality concept. A simulation-optimization framework is then proposed to yield the different reliable itineraries and propose a best solution for synchromodal containers’ transport based on the users’ preferences.
