A Better Policy for Electric and Low-Emission Cars Using Systems Thinking
Norway is the third-largest consumer of electric vehicles in the world behind China and the USA. Norway is also holding the largest amount of electric vehicles per capita in the world. But not without reason, Norway is also the country where the incentives and tax deduction for buying and using electric vehicles and low-emission cars are the greatest. To reach the goals Norway has set for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030, a big reduction in CO2 and NOX emission in the mobility sector is necessary. Norway's goals can only be partially reached by current policies for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. In this paper, we will investigate current policies by leveraging Systems Thinking. We will use a Systemigram to get a better understanding of the dynamic relationship of the mobility sector relative to current policies, climate, and people. After achieving a holistic view of the challenges and possible improvements, suggestions will be made to make a better and sustainable climate policy instrument.
