A new framework to provide quality of service in MPLS network
Traffic engineering (TE) is an important mechanism to maximize network resources and provide Quality of Service (QoS) for different Internet applications and multi protocol label switching (MPLS) enables TE in IP networks. However, the exact framework of MPLS is not specified in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). In this paper, we present a new MPLS framework to guarantee QoS parameters for different types of flow and at the same time, improve the utilization of network resources. Our approach sets up a label switched path (LSP) based on the delay required for the applications and estimates the necessary bandwidth to guarantee this delay. We compare the analytical model with simulations carried out in ns-2 simulator and the results show that with our proposed framework it is possible to guarantee the delay required and improve the use of network resources.
