Nowadays, the topic of national defence is relevant not only for professionalsNowadays, the topic of national defence is relevant not only for professionalsbut also for the wider public. In connection with the war conflict in Ukraine,the public perception of security has changed in Slovakia as well, and it isnecessary to pay attention to the state of public opinion in this area. In thisarticle, we will present basic information about the conscription itself and theimportance of voluntariness in the defence of the state, as highlighted by thenew Concept of Preparation of the Population for the Defence of the State,and in the light of the results of the latest public opinion polls of the Ministryof Defence, we will focus in particular on the awareness of the populationabout the conscription, the state of their willingness to defend their country,and the subsequent interpretation of the most significant results.
