Wideband and High Gain Horn Antenna with Lens and Wedge Ridge
In this paper, an ultra-wideband (UWB) and high gain horn antenna is proposed for microwave communication system, which is composed of E-plane horn antenna, a dielectric hemispheric lens and double wedge metal ridges. The proposed antenna is fed by coaxial feed, which is simulated by high frequency structure simulator (HFSS) software. The simulated results show that the double wedge metal ridges increase the bandwidth of the horn antenna, and the frequency range up to 2~12GHz. When only the double wedge metal ridges are applied to improve the performance of the horn antenna, the gain of the horn antenna will be reduced. In order to compensate for the effect of the double wedge metal ridges on the gain of the horn antenna, the dielectric hemispheric lens is utilized. According to the simulated results, the gain of horn antenna can be increased by the dielectric hemispheric lens in the working frequency band. By the proposed techniques, the proposed antenna has the characteristics of ultra-wideband, high gain and strong directional radiation. It can be applied in a variety of communication systems.
