Written pole motors-a practical solution to large HP motor needs?
In June of 1995, Fleming-Mason Energy Corporation was selected to participate in RER Project 94-4, field testing for the written pole single-phase motor. The site selected was unique in that a phase converter and three-phase motor were already in operation. By installing a written pole motor at this site, head-to-head competition could take place between two of the possible solutions for consumers needing to operate large motor loads on rural, single-phase power lines. This paper addresses the installation, the irrigation system, the phase converter and three-phase motor, the written pole motor, comparative efficiencies, operating costs, and the pros and cons of each of these technologies. Actual field measurements are included.
