Nonlinear impairments in coherent communication systems
We measure the impact of nonlinearities when upgrading a 10Gb/s system with 40Gb/s and 100Gb/s coherent QPSK channels. The results suggest that the dominant impairment is specific to polarization multiplexed coherent systems, namely cross-polarization modulation.
