A packet scheduling scheme in S-LTE networks using logarithmic function as a control parameter
This paper proposes a new packet scheduling scheme for real time traffic in satellite Long Term Evolution (S-LTE) network using a logarithmic function as its control parameter. The S-LTE air interface is able to complement its terrestrial counterparts since it's able to provide worldwide coverage and higher data rate especially in the provision of real time services (multimedia services) to mobile users across the globe. In order to achieve high throughput and also meet varying Quality of Service (QoS) demands of real time traffic users, a cross-layer design approach based packet scheduling scheme is very important. Hence, the aim of this paper is to propose a new packet scheduling scheme tagged Logarithmic Based Channel and Queue-Aware (LBCQA) Scheduler that will maximize the throughput without any serious compromise to QoS and also investigate the effect of the control parameter — logarithmic function in the performance of the proposed scheme. The newly proposed scheduler is compared with existing ones through simulations and various performance indices have been considered. The video streaming and VoIP traffic have been adopted to model the real time traffic.
