Russian response to the Arab Revolutions in the light of the Color Revolutions

The revolutionary developments in Middle East, which had toppled the supposedlyresilient authoritarian regimes, caught all the governments unaware. The Russian government was regarded to be inconsistent in its response to these events like the other states. In this article, I argue that the Russian response is consistent with its new stature as a middle-power which has been trying to establish pragmatic relations with all significant actors in the region throughout the last decade. Moreover, the lessons of the “color revolutions” that erupted on the territory of the former-Soviet Union have a significant impact on the current Russian position regarding the Middle East.
