Impact of staff competences on power quality – related ship accidents
This paper presents an analysis of the threats and adequate counter – measures connected with impact of staff competences on power quality – related ship accidents. Competence gap is analyzed on the basis of the selected case studies for passenger ships and chemical tankers, and concerns the main discrepancies such as: insufficient knowledge about protection systems of critical devices for ship power plant operation as well as human errors in ship tests, day-to-day routine and periodical service and operation. The carried out analysis, is not only emphasized on the role of the human factor in ship system design, development and exploitation, but first of all is addressed to safety lessons, how to limit a hazard connected with crew member behavior in both, routine and unpredictable situations.
