High Power Coherent Addition in an Improved Michelson Cavity
The coherent combining with an output power of 41.5 W for two side-pumped Nd:YAG lasers was demonstrated by use of an improved Michelson cavity (IMC). And the coherent combining efficiency exceeded 80% and the beam quality was significantly improved. What is more, it can directly realize a single beam output after coherent combining. Moreover, it can withstand environmental perturbations without alteration in beam quality and output power. The experiment showed an efficient approach for high power coherent combining by use of the IMC. At last, the further development for the high-power IMC coherent addition was discussed in detail. It is possible to develop an ultra-high power (e.g. 100 kW-class) laser system by the IMC coherent addition technique
