Management traditionally involves angioembolisation with the intent to preserve splenic function; however recent studies suggest that this is not without complication.Case presentation: We present a rare case of delayed splenic pseudoaneurysm arising 6 days post motorbike accident, with initial computerised tomography showing no evidence of splenic injury. The patient was successfully embolised and progressed well without complication. No clear cause was found for his development of splenic injury.Conclusions: Splenic artery pseudoaneurysms are not uncommon and necessitate follow-up imaging after nonoperative management of blunt splenic trauma. Once diagnosed, embolisation versus conservative management can be considered on a case-by-case basis.","PeriodicalId":91667,"journal":{"name":"Case studies in surgery","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/CSS.V4N2P1","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43367752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We report the case of a 7-year-old patient who presented with bilateral conductive hearing loss, originally attributed to otitis media with effusion. After myringotomy, massive pulsatile bleeding occurred on the right side. The bleeding was successfully controlled with packing without any residual complication. Imaging confirmed aberrant internal carotid arteries abutting the tympanic membranes bilaterally.","PeriodicalId":91667,"journal":{"name":"Case studies in surgery","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/CSS.V4N1P23","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43617466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computerized tomographic (CT) imaging can be utilized to visualize the fat accumulations, but histopathologic staining is necessary in order to make a definitive diagnosis. The key histopathologic feature is the identification of adipocyte-like cells within the tumor, but other markers have also been identified. In this case report and review of the literature, we discuss how to recognize the symptoms associated with lipomatous meningiomas and the definitive treatment approach for these rare tumors.","PeriodicalId":91667,"journal":{"name":"Case studies in surgery","volume":"2 4 1","pages":"58-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.5430/CSS.V2N4P58","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71211147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
