Community entry involves discovery of the principles and techniques of participation and mobilization for community transformation. It also involves discernment of who the leadership and community members are in order to achieve an effective way of meeting and interacting with them. The principles of Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) provide a framework for using a community approach to discover solutions to health disparities. However, there is an evidentiary dearth of instruction about how one begins and maintains community entry. In this paper, the novice CBPR researcher is instructed in participation strategies, informed of sensitivity factors involved with new cultures, and apprised of the community consciousness of the system where gaining entry is planned. Additionally, a case study is used to present strategies for system entry and the participation processes involved to discover leadership and community members as part of the process of beginning a community based research study.","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49017439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The literatures have shown that stronger intention to leave as a consequence of job dissatisfaction may lead to actual turnover. Therefore, it may be a crucial to understand nurses' job satisfaction issue, as this is a key factor in nurses' intention to leave the working place and low job commitment. Aim and Objective: This study examined the factors that determine job satisfaction which are personal, environmental and organizational components and the relation of those factors on Coronary Care Unit nurses' intention to leave their working place. Methodology/ Design: Across sectional, quantitative and correlation design was selected at a fixed point in time. Method: Data was drawn from analysis of self reported questionnaire which included three sections of; demographic data, McClosky Mueller Satisfaction Scale and Anticipated Turnover Scale. The questionnaires were distributed to 60 accessible nurses in CCU. A total of 42 respondents completed the questionnaires with an70 percent response rate. Finding: Nationality and work scheduling were significantly influencing job satisfaction, but marital status and work experience were more influencing the turnover intention. The study finding showed an evidence of considerable highly negative relation between job satisfaction and turnover intention, which was manifested by 78.6% those nurses reporting to be dissatisfied or in neutral responds with their overall job. Moreover, 72.8% of nurses were more likely to hold an intention to leave working place. The most statistically significant predictor of dissatisfaction and lead to leave intention was external reward. Job satisfaction subscale connected to social support was identified as an important factor which may decrease leave intention. Conclusion: The study findings suggested increase nurses' satisfaction through improving benefit package such as health insurance, retirement profits and salary is a key for possible strategy to decrease turnover intention among Coronary Care Unit nurses in Bahrain. Implication for Practice: The study findings have ramifications for nurses' manages to develop strategies aimed at improving the job satisfaction in order to decrease turnover intention.","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48787554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a paucity of data regarding experiences of the students with physical challenges in nursing programs. These case studies present the self-reported experiences, outlooks, and perceptions of three physically disabled baccalaureate, pre-licensure nursing students. This was a representative convenience sample of all three self-identified students with physical disabilities in the two participating nursing programs. The perspectives shared will further educate faculty in the extraordinary challenges faced by the physically disabled nursing students, and inform ideas about inclusiveness in nursing education.","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":"2017 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66872603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also recognized that cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks can catalyze the development of AD. AD and congestive heart failure (CHF) often occur together and thus increase the cost of care and health resources. We investigated the prevalence of AD in patients hospitalized with CHF. In addition, factors that affect the outcomes of this special population were determined. Methods: Data from the National Inpatient Samples (NIS) were extracted and analyzed using ICD 9 codes (CHF 428, PD 331) for the main diagnosis. For continuous variables, we calculated the mean and standard deviations and evaluated significant differences of these factors by Alzheimer disease status using the t-test. For categorical variables, we obtained the counts (proportions) and evaluated significant differences using the Chi-square and Fisher’s exact test Propensity score was utilized to match age, gender and race using logistic model for hospital death and generalized linear model for length of stay (LOS) and hospital charges. Results: The overall characteristics of matched participants with CHF and AD status showed that average age of inpatients was ~84 (SD=6.31). The prevalence of inpatients with both CHF and AD was significant (p $63,000). Finally, patient with CHF and AD stayed longer with higher mortality rates than those without AD, p< 0.0001. Age and race significantly affected all the outcomes, p< 0.0001 while gender showed significance for hospital death and charges (p< 0.0001). Hospital death was not affected by patient’s household income but its interesting to note that LOS was affected by patients with household income between $39,000 - $62,999 and hospital charge by patients with higher household incomes from $48.000 and above. Stroke was the only comorbidity that significantly (p","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43283608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important for health care professionals to be aware of the clinical manifestations of tick borne diseases, and recommended practices for their diagnosis and treatment. It is also important to educate the public on signs of disease and how to mitigate exposure. An understanding about the life cycle of ticks and the interplay of the environment is also crucial to reduce morbidity and mortality. This article presents the most common tick borne diseases of hard bodied ticks in the United States which are transmitted by: deer tick: Ixodes scapularis and pacificus, dog tick: Amblyomma americium and lone star tick: Dermacentor variabilis. Diseases from infected ticks (bacterial, parasitic and viral) include Lyme disease, babesiosis, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, tularemia, Powassan virus (POW virus) and Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness (STARI). There is increasing concern with new and emerging strains of other tick borne diseases such as Borrelia miyamotoi.","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47992664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the field of nursing, which has been facing critical shortages for decades, workplace bullying has been blamed for higher attrition rates, reduced productivity, and even the current nursing shortage. Poorer patient care and reduced safety on the job are also noted sequelae of bullying among nurses. While incidents of bullying may be an accepted though unintended consequence of power dynamics within an organizational structure, there is a critical need for managers to analyze the extent of the problem, determine its impact, and try to understand how it affects staff satisfaction and retention. Although there is evidence that lack of managerial support and hierarchical work environments that disempower staff contribute to bullying among nurses, there does not appear to be agreement on the most important factors that contribute to the perpetuation of these harmful behaviors, or more importantly, on how to reduce the frequency and impact of bullying events. A number of studies have been conducted on workplace bullying; however, very few in the field of nursing have been undertaken. This paper systematically examines the impact of bullying, the factors that perpetuate its continuance, and synthesizes the literature on promising environmental and individual-level interventions in the field of nursing.","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44145027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reporting errors is frequently used as a general term for patient safety event reporting systems, which depend on those involved in events to provide detailed information. This study aimed to identify barriers of reporting errors at one tertiaryhospital in Saudi Arabia from the perspective of nurses themselves. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. The data were collected by a questionnaire that was distributed among 154 nurses varying between male and female staff nurses working at the tertiary hospital. A descriptive statistical analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Nurses revealed that there are several barriers to report incidents; however, lack of time and complexity of works were the main barriers for nurses to report incidents within the hospital units particularly for nurses who have 11-20 years of experience. Conclusion: Conducting this study has several advantages. Firstly, to identify the common barriers of reporting errors in clinical practice among nurses. Secondly, identifying the barriers and strategies of reporting incidents will enhance the patient safety across the organization and encourage the staff to report the errors.","PeriodicalId":91514,"journal":{"name":"International journal of nursing & clinical practices","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46176209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
