Je extrémn ě stabilní, nereaguje ani se silnými oxida čními činidly jako je chlor nebo ozon. Hodnota log K OW je 6,89. Z hlediska karcinogenních ú činků je zařazen do skupiny 2B (IARC). Pat ří mezi nejstabiln ější chemické látky. Používal se v minulosti jako in sekticid pro hubení mravenc ů a termitů a jako přísada zpomalující ho ření plast ů, pryže, elektrických materiál ů, nátěrů, textilu a papíru.
