The accurate location of cable partial defect is of great significance to maintain the safe operation of the cable. In this research, a method of cable partial defect diagnosis based on frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) is proposed. Firstly, the mathematical model of cable transmission line is established, and the basic principle of this method is described. Then, the Dolph-Chebyshev window function is selected to eliminate the inaccuracy of positioning results caused by signal spectrum leakage. And through the feasibility of this method is explored by establishing a simulation model. Finally, several experiments were carried out on 10kV XLPE cables in Chengdu. The results show that the diagnosis conclusions of cable intermediate joints and local defects location are basically consistent with the cable account information and the actual situation. Which indicate that the method is feasible for locating and diagnosing local defects and intermediate joints.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"64 1","pages":"215-220"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81281308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, reference values and alert limits are not yet completely available with reference to different classes of the transformers. Some helps may be sorted out from the recent publication (2021-01) of the IEC 62975 \"Natural esters - Guidelines for maintenance and use in electrical equipment\" which contains useful additional information for the operators in NE transformers.To overcome this situation, there is an effort to look for similarities with traditional transformers insulated with mineral oil (MO) for which a great amount of information on chemical-physical analysis are already available. In the present paper, case studies of some Natural Ester (NE) transformers maintenance have been presented and discussed. The acquired data will be also useful with the aim of adjusting the Health Index evaluation in order to guarantee support for maintenance decisions of the operators in this sector.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"89 1","pages":"559-562"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83882217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electric field represents one of the most critical parameters governing the evolution of space charge. This paper reports an experimental study on the evolution of charge distribution in a special group of materials including five polymeric dielectrics used in high temperature (HT) applications. The charge distribution has been measured for each sample under different electric fields including 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 40, and 70 kV/mm during 15 minutes at room temperature. Moreover, based on the charge distribution profiles, the electric field distributions and maximum electric fields have been calculated for each material. The results of this study show that PI and PEEK have better performance in terms of space charge distribution, electric field distortion and maximum electric field enhancement compared with other materials.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"39 1","pages":"363-366"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88318769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we introduce a facile, flow-induced self-assembly of montmorillonite (MMT) nano-sheets coating on the surface of polystyrene (PS) films to modify the insulator-metal interface contact and impede charge injection to PS. Temperature dependent breakdown strength and pre-breakdown conduction were investigated to reveal the impact of the MMT coating. Many methods to analyze DLO have been developed in recent years. However, an analytical tool for high throughput and low-cost analysis of DLO affected samples remains absent from the literature. Color differences in polymers exposed to oxidative conditions have recently been observed and correlated to increased concentrations of oxidation products. Herein, total color difference was utilized to rapidly quantify DLO in ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) polymeric cable insulation specimens. Insulation specimens were aged at 121 °C, 136 °C, 150 °C, and 165 °C and a 10% ΔE*ab difference between the specimen edge and specimen center was used as the threshold for DLO. Based on these specifications DLO was observed in EPR insulation specimen at temperatures of 136 °C and above, with an increasing degree of DLO observed as the time of exposure increased. The method presented in this work represents a quantitative and high-throughput method for the investigation of DLO with a low cost barrier for entry.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"2 1","pages":"639-642"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80192000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of a HVDC cable during transients, such as sudden switching and polarity reversal etc., will not be the same as in steady state. In this work the design performance of a HVDC cable has been evaluated. During transient periods the cable insulation suffers from high electro-thermal stress. In this paper, an electro-thermal model has been considered for simulation. The nonlinear DC conductivity is experimentally measured and incorporated in the model to analyze exact performance of cable as per Cigré standard TB 496. The electric field, temperature distribution and insulation leakage current have been analyzed. Peak electric field and field enhancement factors are obtained.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"36 1","pages":"187-190"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80567745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the development and utilization of Tree Retardant Cross-Linked Polyethylene (TR-XLPE) based cables have recently been given great attention to overcome the treeing issues. TR-XLPE cables use low-density polyethylene compounds suppressing the formation of water trees while retaining excellent electrical, physical, and processing attributes. This paper investigates and analyzes the impact of thermal stress on a 33kV three-core power cable with TR-XLPE and XLPE insulations in the presence of different types, shapes and sizes of voids. The results have been obtained after 500 hours of the accelerated aging test. The obtained results confirm the superiority of TR-XLPE over XLPE cables in terms of retaining higher volume resistivity. Results obtained from simulations conclude that TR-XLPE insulated cable retains 6% more dielectric strength when compared to XLPE insulated cable.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"196 ","pages":"263-268"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91448689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surface functionalization of nanofillers is implemented using an anhydrous technique with three different surfactants. These surface-modified nanofillers are mixed with polymers at fill grades of up to 5% by weight, prepared by a solution blending method. Thermogravimetric analysis confirms the presence of surface functionalization and the desired nanofiller amount. Dielectric permittivity values tend to rise as a function of filler content, and notably the dielectric loss of TiO2 nanocomposites is significantly increased below 0.1 Hz. MgO nanocomposites have overall lower dielectric losses than TiO2. AC breakdown of PP is significantly improved with modified TiO2 and MgO at 2.5%, while other fill grades have less pronounced effects. Ethoxy-modified nanoparticles with long chain hydrolysable group show overall the best dielectric properties.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"70 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91124694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the separation efficiency is depending a lot on the particle sizes. Our article was based on the field experience of an ESP with a reduced separation efficiency, in which the firing technology changed. As a result, smaller particles are getting at the entrance to the ESP. To accurately track the process, we examined different cases of a numerical model, supplemented by static model and laboratory measurements. In this paper, we showed that reducing the incoming dust mass does not definitely cause an improvement in the separation.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"74 1","pages":"303-306"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76479923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most of the conventional dielectric spectrum data is measured at a voltage below 200 V, which is susceptible to environmental noise interference during field testing, resulting in larger measurement errors. So this paper designs a high-voltage frequency domain dielectric spectrum measurement device for wetting degree diagnosis of oil-paper insulated bushings. Based on the self-developed measurement platform, it is found that, the dielectric spectrum data of the dry bushing model does not change significantly with the increase in voltage; while the dielectric spectrum curve of the wetting model moves up significantly. Moreover, the rate at which low-frequency dielectric loss increases with voltage is positively correlated with the moisture content in the paper. Besides, for local moisture defect conditions, traditional dielectric analyzers may not be able to provide accurate diagnostic information of insulation defects, but the high-voltage dielectric spectroscopy technology can make its unique contribution.","PeriodicalId":6837,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)","volume":"20 1","pages":"287-290"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76496779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
