Different sPP samples (with varying molecular mass and syndiotacticity) and an sPP/ethylene random copolymer are studied. The semi-crystalline morphology of these materials was characterized using different techniques like WAXD, DSC and SEM. The crystalline morphology of the considered materials was varied by varying the processing conditions and by copolymerizing with ethylene. The crystallinity and the crystalline interphase content of the materials were then correlated with the electrical strength.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"125 1","pages":"756-759"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75868923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How to improve the safety running level of convertor transformers is a key problem to be solved imminently. Compared with AC power transformers, the valve side windings of convertor transformers will endure combined AC-DC voltage. In these conditions, the gas generation characteristics in oil for convertor transformers will be more complicated. In this paper, according to the operational principle of convertor transformers, the ratios between AC and DC voltage on valve side windings in the star connection and triangular connection were 77.1% and 83.7% respectively. Based on the above results, 65 kV peak voltages in 5 different AC and DC voltage forms were applied to the needle-plate electrode model for 2 hours. The discharge current and voltage waveforms were recorded and the arc current pulses had a short lasting time about 1.2 ms. Then the mean discharge energy was calculated at 0.1 to 0.3 J. At the same time, the gas generation characteristics under combined AC-DC voltage were obtained by using the gas chromatographic analysis method. The variations of amounts and generation rates of characteristic gases were measured with time during 2 hours, which provided fault judgment criterions and experimental experience. The experimental results showed that the amounts and generation rates of H2, C2H2 and total hydrocarbon under the pure DC voltage or combined AC-DC voltage were more than those under the pure AC voltage. It might illustrate the fact that effects of different voltage forms would lead to different gas generation characteristics could not be ignored.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"38 1","pages":"718-721"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82579897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Polymer layer was sandwiched with thin ceramic plates to make multi-layer stacked samples. Through the comparison of the thermal conductivity of the multi-layer-stacked materials, and those of the single component materials for both polymer and ceramics, the thermal resistance at the interface between polymer and ceramic plate was evaluated. This suggests that the contribution of thermal-resistance become significant for composite materials because of the increase of interface. The results also demonstrate that the organic modifications of inorganic surface could effectively reduce the interfacial thermal resistance. Control of the interfaces seems to be effective to improve thermal conducting property of materials. On the other hand, control of inner structures in the materials is also important. We also investigated effects of inner structures on both thermal conducting and electrical insulating properties of the materials. Based on the results, high thermal conductive insulating materials were newly designed.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"26 1","pages":"330-333"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83251067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gas insulated switchgear is an alternative to conventional cable systems, enabling higher energy densities. However, the sulfur hexafluoride used in GIS causes environmental problems, which may not be acceptable anymore in a society with emphasis on sustainability. An alternative to this are superconducting cables. High temperature superconducting cables operate at temperatures close to the boiling point of nitrogen, which is 77 K. Not much is known about the dielectric behavior of insulating polymers at such temperatures. This exploratory work investigates how the complex permittivity of epoxy based nanocomposites changes at very low temperatures. A broadband dielectric spectrometer was utilized to acquire the real and imaginary part of the complex permittivity, along with the loss factor. The base polymer for all samples is a commercially available bisphenol-A epoxy with anhydrite hardener. As filler material magnesium oxide powder was used with an average particle size of 22 nm and alumina filler with 50 nm average diameter. Both particle types were modified with a silane coupling agent, in order to achieve a uniform dispersion of particles in the host material. Neat epoxy samples were used as a reference.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"1 1","pages":"306-309"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83007037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A numerical electro-acoustic model has been developed with software Comsol. Using this model, we can establish the output voltage of the piezoelectric sensor and acoustic pressure at each point of the calculation domain. Our approach consists to recover charge distribution within the sample using deconvolution method and transfer matrix obtained with the new calibration technique. This new method has been tested with theoretical and experimental signals. The main conclusion is that an improvement of the spatial resolution is demonstrated, compared to the standard method usually used.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"28 1","pages":"247-250"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83607137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, tree initiation processes and degradation phenomena in SiR are not clear. The investigations of tree initiation processes at high electric field region are very important. In this paper, the effect of H2O on electrical tree initiation voltage will be examined. Three kinds of samples were tested; untreated SiR, SiR treated by vacuum heating, and SiR impregnated with liquid water after vacuum heating treatment. The tree initiation voltage of SiR treated by vacuum heating was higher than that of untreated SiR. It is considered that the tree initiation voltage is increased by removing gaseous H2O molecules. However the tree initiation voltage of SiR impregnated with liquid water after vacuum heating was higher than that of SiR treated by vacuum heating. These results seem to contradict each other. We consider that the tree initiation voltage is increased by presence of liquid H2O. It is suggested that the states of H2O molecules included in the free volume have a large effect on ac tree initiation in SiR.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"25 1","pages":"784-787"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72806542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigated the breakdown characteristics of PPLP, which was the three-laminated structure of kraft paper (KP), polypropylene film (PP film) and KP, in LN2 by comparison with those of the papers with different laminated structure, e.g., single-layer of KP, single-layer of PP film and the 2 layer laminated paper of KP and PP. The breakdown characteristics under the application of impulse voltage, ac voltage and dc voltage were obtained, and the breakdown mechanisms were discussed. Experimental results revealed that the breakdown strength of PPLP under the application of impulse voltage and dc voltage was higher than that of the single-layer material. This could be attributed to the dispersion effect of the streamer by KP layer of PPLP. In order to obtain the unified explanation for the breakdown mechanism with the different voltage polarity and the different laminated structure, we suggested the injection model of the negative charge into the KP layer of PPLP and the less-injection model of the charge into the PP.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"30 1","pages":"419-422"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82490969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover the electric field produced by power lines, busbars and all high voltage equipments inside high voltage (HV) substations is receiving more and more concerns to guarantee the safety of workers inside these substations. Therefore monitoring the electric field inside air insulated substation (AIS) is achieved in this paper. In this paper not only the simulation of the electric field using charge simulation method (CSM) in three dimensional (3D) is achieved by using electric field modeling program developed by the authors but also the electric field is measured into actual conventional 500/220 kV Cairo 500 substation under 500 kV bus-system. The simulated results are compared with the actual measured values. The simulation results are matched with the measured values with a very small tolerance about 4.4%.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"115 1 1","pages":"219-222"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78014952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this aim, a cycloaliphatic diepoxy monomer, namely 3, 4 - epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3', 4' - epoxy-cyclohexane carboxylate (CE), was copolymerized with 1,6-hexanediol diglycidyl ether (HDGE) by UV-curing employing different CE amounts (up to 40 wt. %). Two relaxation modes namely β and γ were observed, attributed to the local molecular motions. It has been shown that the dielectric constant and the thermal properties depend on the concentration of the CE. Their structural morphology and the effect of space charge were studied using the Thermal Step Method. The dielectric responses for UV-cured HDGE/CE systems are presented. The potential effect of moisture and/or ions, the effect of the formation of a polymer network having a tunable crosslinking density and the effect of space charge on the copolymers were also investigated. The influence of chain lengths on dielectric behaviour has also been investigated.","PeriodicalId":6317,"journal":{"name":"2011 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"39 1","pages":"655-659"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74949130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
