The paper presents distributional data for seven species new for the flora of Kazakhstan: Atriplex gardneri var. aptera (A. Nelson) S. L. Welsh. & Crompton, Cardamine hirsuta L., Carduus acanthoides L., Galega orientalis Lam., Silene cserei Baumg., Didymophysa fedtschenkoana Regel and Acinos arvensis (Lam.) Dandy. Didymophysa fedtschenkoana is a native ele- ment in the Kazakh flora; the other species should be treated as alien, expansively spreading or invasive in this part of Asia. A list of localities of the species in Kazakhstan and their habitat preferences are presented.","PeriodicalId":56362,"journal":{"name":"Polish Botanical Journal","volume":"1747 1","pages":"191-195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/PBJ-2015-0018","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67275603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For species identification, sporangium structure (number of indurated and basal annulus cells) was found to be the most stable and thus the most valuable and taxonomically significant character. The size of spores and stomata was related to taxon ploidy level, and helped to differentiate the examined taxa. Polypodium interjectum was identified from only one locality in the Pogórze Kaczawskie foothills; P. × mantoniae was more widely distributed, suggesting that it is rather common in the Polish Sudetes. Both newly reported taxa occur mainly on basic or neutral rock in sheltered, shaded or semi-shaded habitats.","PeriodicalId":56362,"journal":{"name":"Polish Botanical Journal","volume":"60 1","pages":"163-172"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/PBJ-2015-0021","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67275611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its southernmost, disjoined localities are on the Apennine Peninsula and Balkan Peninsula. The only Balkan occurrence of H. alpinum is in the Vranica Mts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, found in 1938 (Horvat & Pawłowski 1939). Pawłowski’s publication from 1963 is the recognized source (cf. Bräutigam 1992: 328), even though Pawłowski (1963: 482) wrote that together with Horvat he published the first information on H. alpinum in the Vranica Mts in 1939. Hieracium alpinum is quite frequent in the Vranica Mts. The plants from the Vranica Mts were found to be triploid (Ilnicki & Szeląg 2011) like the majority of those in the European range of the species. The diploids are confined to the Eastern and Southern Carpathians (Mráz & Szeląg 2004). During a revision of Hieracium collection in the Moravian Museum in Brno (BRNM) I found two herbarium sheets of H. alpinum also collected","PeriodicalId":56362,"journal":{"name":"Polish Botanical Journal","volume":"60 1","pages":"305-306"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67275393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A geographical analysis of the 466 species in the subgenus is reported here. Every species was assigned to one of 29 geographical elements clustered in ten groups of elements. This geographical analysis showed that the Tethyan group (comprising nine geographical elements) clearly dominates the subgenus and contains 260 species (55.79% of the total number of species). The most numerous geographical elements are Irano-Turanian (105 species) and Mediterranean (85). Other significant groups of elements are Boreal (91 species, 19.54%), East Asian (40 species, 8.58%), Madrean (26 species, 5.58%), Paleotropical (23 species, 4.94%) and South African (16 species, 3.43%). The area of the Tethyan floristic subkingdom is the center of the modern diversity of E. subg. Esula. It is likely that such diversity is the result of intensive speciation that took place during the Eocene–Miocene.","PeriodicalId":56362,"journal":{"name":"Polish Botanical Journal","volume":"60 1","pages":"147-161"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1515/PBJ-2015-0024","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67275655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
