A fine beam of electrons scans the surface in synchronism with a cathode ray tube whose spot brightness is modulated by the secondary electron signal emanating from the specimen. The system is capable of giving a large depth of focus and thus allows different projections of the specimen to be photographed by tilting the specimen between successive exposures. From a knowledge of the geometry of the projection (which is central or perspective, but may be justifiably treated as a parallel or orthogonal case for high magnification images), it is therefore possible to proceed to three dimensional analyses from the measurement of parallaxes. Part I of this paper deals with the practical problems resulting from mechanical design limitations of specimen stages and plotting instruments, as well as the nature and sources of image distortions. The tests show that a larger total temperature difference of the image forming system is present when an aircraft camera window is used than when the sortie is made without a window. It is concuded that at 7000 m and greater altitudes, the metric camera will be in a thermally dynamic situation throughout the sortie unless that sortie is of considerable duration. In pressurised aircraft, the use of a thick camera window is mandatory, but there is some evidence to suggest that in non-pressurised aircraft it is better not to use a window. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000Resume \u0000 \u0000On a enregistre en vol la valeur des parametres atmospheriques a une altitude de 7000 m, et a l'alentour a'une chambre de prise de vue. Es wird geschlussfolgert, dass sich die Kamera in Hohen von 7000 m und grosser in einem thermisch dynamischen Zustand wahrend des Aufnahmefluges befindet, es sei denn, der Flug dauert sehr lange.
