However, research primarily focuses on EU member states and destination/receiving countries. Therefore, our study examines media framing of the refugee crisis in Serbia between 2015 and 2016. Building on frames previously identified in the Western context, we pre-defined three frames: viewing the refugee crisis as a problem for the political system, society, or refugees. These frames were coded as external/internal based on whether the media text discussed the crisis outside/inside Serbia. Our deductive análisis shows that framing differs from destination countries, with a minimal emphasis on social problems in Serbia. Political issues and challenges faced by refugees were dominant but externalized, showing a slight decline over time compared to the social problem frame, which followed real events. Furthermore, our inductive thematic analysis reveals a new way of framing refugees as a problema for the free movement of our citizens. It also reveals a meta-frame of “Us” (in Serbia) as acting in a humanitarian manner amid hard circumstances created by “Them” (Western politicians) who are not handling the crisis in line with the EU values.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42510434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para ello, se lleva a cabo un análisis de contenido fundamentado en los postulados de la teoría de la acción razonada. Los principales hallazgos permiten resolver que las interacciones directas con migrantes y refugiados tienden a ser significativas a la hora de publicar o no un mensaje de tipo racista y xenófobo. También se resuelve que la presión social percibida fundamenta la mayor parte del discurso de odio racista y xenófobo que se propaga en Twitter en castellano, lo que plantea una posible línea de trabajo futura que permita identificar la manera en la cual las estructuras formales de poder influyen los discursos sobre migración. Por último, se analiza la relación existente entre los marcos connotativos con los que se representa a los migrantes y refugiados y las creencias subyacentes a la actitud, identificando así la manera en la que se crean los encuadres sobre migración que se usan para difundir el odio.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44292381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do this, we have selected four of Spain's leading newspapers: El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia and ABC. We worked on a corpus of 886 analysis units, compiled in the period 2008-2019 using the quantitative content analysis method. The results reveal four noteworthy aspects: the simplification of migration reality by obviating the gender issue and, when this is addressed, under-representing immigrant women; the linking of women to more social and integrative perspectives, while men are more associated with conflict and delinquency; the quantitative over-dimensioning of the immigrants' African origin with respect to the real figures; and, finally, when the gender issue is taken into account, the main source is the migrants themselves, so that the migration phenomenon is presented from the experiences and feelings of the people involved in the process.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41564506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this research is to analyse the discourse of the social audience of the Spanish press in relation to refugees. In this sense, we have extracted and analysed the comments written by Twitter users on the news referring to refugees as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine during the month following the start of the conflict (from 24 February to 24 March 2022) by the five newspapers with the largest number of followers on this social network: El País, El Mundo, ABC, eldiario.es and La Vanguardia. A total of 1.581 comments on 232 news items. Through the critical analysis of the discourse, the positioning of the media themselves and their social audience on refugees in the context of the conflict was determined. On a quantitative level, a content analysis of the feedback received by the media was carried out to measure the impact generated by this type of news. The results obtained show the different frames in which refugees are represented, with negative frames being understood as indicators of rejection and hatred.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47884044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The theoretical starting point is the sociology of knowledge in Mannheim.  This article investigates the effects on cultural changes of the communication-migration binomial, specifically on the media language and system of ideas around migrations. We will consider as “milestones” (with a before and after) the laws or agreements that marked the historical and social context of migration in Italy over the past few years. We aim to verify through the analysis of the “words” whether and how the media's language (limited to «la Repubblica») has modified the language used to represent migrations and the related contents dealing with problems of general interest connected to the phenomenon of migration.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44420704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The promotion of transparency and citizen participation by political organizations might be a useful communication strategy. However, previous academic studies have not paid much attention to political parties in assessing openness, transparency, and accountability. Rather, they have focused on administrations. This article not only explores transparency but also the rest of the open government principles, these being participation and collaboration, as performed by political organizations, and as new communication strategies. The paper will argue that political parties should implement these ideas because of their public role but also to demonstrate honesty and integrity to the electorate. The implementation of transparency, accountability, deliberation, decision-making and collaboration by Spanish and Portuguese political parties has been analysed through a detailed study of the information available on their websites. The results of this analysis show that political parties are still far from being open and should focus especially on developing principles that involve citizen interaction. Although transparency was the most developed aspect, further promotion of participation and collaboration would imply a paradigm shift in how parties communicate with the electorate.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44646450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These theories identified the potentiality of media discourse as a constructive phenomenon in the constitution of mental health and stigma. In this line, cyberbullying, a form of mobbing via electronic media affects the mental health. Considering this fact, this systematic review maps how academic enquires responded to the concept of cyberbullying among adolescents that invariably affect mental health. The systematic review confirms that cyberbullying is a global phenomenon, prevalent among all cultures and geographies, and enhances its frequency owing to technological advancements. Quantitative studies tempt to quantify the mental illness and experiences associated with cyberbullying. The systematic review has also identified a deficit of methodologies for the measurement of cyberbullying and qualitative academic inquires in the recent literature. The majority of the studies conceived cyberbullying from the perspective of victims ignoring the psychological aspects of perpetrators and bystanders. To escape from this positivistic inclination, cyberbullying and mental health have to be addressed footing on the theories of performativity and materiality.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42940660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the impact of concepts such as “eco-anxiety” and “solastalgia” in the Spanish and Latin American written and digital press. These neologisms attempt to explain the emotional effects of climate change on mental health. Between 2015 and 2019 the words “solastalgia” and “Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD)” slowly made their way into the media, until 2019, when the term “eco-anxiety” became relatively successful in the newspapers. In addition to analysing the factors involved in the birth and evolution of this concept, the study describes the most frequently cited emotions, such as fear, anguish, stress, sadness and guilt. The results obtained indicate, on the one hand, that eco-anxiety is still a vague idea and not very present in the media, too often linked to negative emotions, in contradiction of clinical psychology advice. Meanwhile, emotions such as anger or indignation, which would enable a collective response to climate change, are often neglected.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49537879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Journalistic metamorphosis has not been traumatic, but it has been complex, leading to tensions, reflections and controversies. The challenges facing journalism during the global pandemic caused by COVID-19 are assessed with a focus on Spain. The research consists of a survey of 197 Spanish journalists and nine interviews with prestigious academics and internationally recognized professionals. Changes within journalism are addressed in five major themes: the role of journalism today; the relationship between journalism and politics; the incidence of bots and artificial intelligence; mobile journalism and social media; and emerging forms of journalism. The results show that the role of journalism remains unchanged, but the pandemic has strengthened some of its functions. The influence of politics in journalism is very prominent, as well as the concern about automation and misinformation. To face the future, high specialization is needed due to the fast technological evolution and the emergence of new techniques.\u0000* This work was supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Government of Spain) and the ERDF structural fund within the research project “Digital native media in Spain: Storytelling formats and mobile strategy” (RTI2018-093346-B-C33).","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47444308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research focuses on the 24-hour television broadcast of five channels throughout 16 months, coding the content to identify trends and to know how media covered mental health topics all along seven days in January 2021. The analysis reveals a trivial representation of the topic, including irrelevant references to mental health that may not help make visible problems such as depression, anxiety, or stress. Instead, there seems to be a lack of rigorous analysis of the mental health conditions arising after the pandemic. We can infer that private broadcasters have a more suitable approach when presenting data, describing people involved or taking advice from mental health professionals. Effective information on mental health requires deep messaging and medical recommendations or statements, but from this research, it turns out that there is a touch of frivolity in the way television approaches mental health issues.","PeriodicalId":44263,"journal":{"name":"Tripodos","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42226331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
