The effect of different reaction parameters such as different iron ions loading on Kuala Kangsar clay (KKC), dosage of catalyst, initial pH, the initial hydrogen peroxide concentration ([H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>]<sub>0</sub>), the initial concentration of AR1 ([AR1]<sub>0</sub>) and the reaction temperature on the decolorization of AR1 was studied. The best reacting conditions were found to be 0.60 wt.% of iron ions loading on KKC, dosage catalyst = 3.0 g/L, initial pH = 2.5, [H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>]<sub>0</sub> = 8 mM, [AR1]<sub>0</sub> = 50 mg/L at temperature 30 °C. Under these conditions, 99% decolorization of AR1 was achieved within 140 min reaction time. The results proved that this new catalyst is highly effective for the decolorization of AR1 in an aqueous solution.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131062184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such scenario multi-objective algorithms are preferred which improve the clustering performance due to additional knowledge of data properties in the form of objective functions. In this paper we have proposed an automatic multi-objective clustering algorithm based on clonal selection principle of artificial immune system (AIS) and is termed as MOCLONAL. The proposed algorithm is capable of providing a single best solution from the Pareto optimal archive which mostly satisfy the user requirement. Simulation studies on synthetic and real life datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithm compared to benchmark multi-objective clustering algorithm MOCK. An interesting application of the proposed algorithm have been demonstrated to classify the normal and aggressive actions of 3D human models.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129149749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it is an effective curing technique, it has some complications. Air embolism is one of such complications which may cause death of patients in some cases. In this paper, we have proposed an efficient, economic and reliable air embolism protecting system to save precious lives in case of air bubble insertion. The proposed system monitors the IV tube and when an air bubble even in fraction of millimeter gets introduced into the tube, detects it, indicates emergency and blocks the fluid flow to protect entrance of the air bubble into the human body. The proposed system has been evaluated on various IV solutions; results are very promising as the accuracy is more than or equal to 99% in every case thus supporting the implementation of the solution. Therefore, the system can be used for any type of IV solution.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114443769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this paper is to design and identify the performance of the ADC with two types of comparator. Another objective of this paper is to minimize the power consumption of the ADC circuit from a comparator. Flash ADC is one of the faster ways to convert any analog signal to a digital signal. It uses folding and interpolating techniques allow each comparator of the ADC to be reused several times over the full scale input range. In addition, interpolating technique can reduce the number of folding circuit required in a folding ADC hence further improve the performance of the ADC in term of capacitive loading and power consumption. Besides that, 70 percent speed of the ADC also depends on the comparator. If we use very fast and stable comparator, the ADC will be more fast and effectively to do the next applications. The simulation results indicate that the comparator design 1 achieved lower power operation rather than comparator design 2 with a minimum number of transistors used, 2GHz of input signal and 497.02mW of power consumption from a single 2V supply based to Gateway Silvaco EDA tools simulation result.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128975193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed optimization technique is a global heuristic search algorithm and better exploration and exploitation of multidimensional search space can be achieved with closely mimicked swarm behaviour in fundamental PSO equation. Performance of the proposed optimization technique is compared with some well accepted evolutionary algorithms such as PSO and real coded genetic algorithm (RGA). From the simulation study it is established that the CRPSO outperforms RGA and PSO, not only in the accuracy of the designed filter but also in the convergence speed and solution quality, i.e., the stop band attenuation, transition width, pass band and stop band ripples. Further, the pole-zero analysis justifies the stability of the designed optimized IIR filter.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130233425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is about comparing Monte Carlo and Quasi-Monte Carlo approach in pricing European call option. Both approaches has an attractive properties of numerical valuation of derivatives, with Quasi-Monte Carlo simulation using low discrepancy sequences for valuing derivatives versus the traditional Monte Carlo method using pseudo-random sequences. The performance of these methods is evaluated based on pricing European call options and by John Birge's paper in 1995. Option price using Black Scholes method generated by MATLAB will be the benchmark to testify results from both Monte Carlo and Quasi-Monte Carlo approach. At the end of the study, it is proven that Quasi-Monte Carlo approach does give better result than Monte Carlo approach in pricing a call option. It is discovered that Quasi-Monte Carlo using hybrid Halton sequence gave better results compared to Quasi-Monte Carlo because of the random sequence it generated.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130921683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plain woven Kevlar 29 fabrics were coated with pre-vulcanised NRL using single-dip, double-dip and triple-dip coating methods. The force needed to break and tear the uncoated and NRL coated fabrics were determined using Testometric Tensile Tester and observations were made on their modes of failure. Besides, a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) also been done in order to observe the bonding between fiber and NRL. Overall, the NRL coated fabrics showed higher tensile and tearing strength in comparison with the uncoated fabrics. The tensile strength for the SD-, DD- and TD-coated fabrics were 12%, 8% and 10% higher than the uncoated fabrics respectively. Similarly, the tearing strength for SD-, DD- and TD-coated fabrics were 9%, 12% and 18% higher than the uncoated fabric. After each coating, the fabric's areal density and thickness increases. The NRL film on the fabric surface restricts yarn freedom of movement under loading. It also assists the yarns to bunch together and resist the propagation of tear or break by sharing the load with a greater number of yarns before the fabric is completely failed. Additionally, it can be said that coating with NRL increase the energy absorption and the elasticity characteristics of the coated fabrics and preventing from severe damage during loading.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"194 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115294668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The observation and evaluation of the current production process indicate the incidence of bottlenecks, especially at the cooling station which interferes with the production flow. However, the fundamental problem that could inhibit the long-run production flexibility is its suboptimum facilities layout. This leads to high travelling time and high travelling cost. The study found weaknesses from the point of facilities layout flexibility (FLF), productive area utilisation (PAU) and closeness gap (CG). With these weaknesses, it is unlikely that the company would be able to respond both in quantity and quality, as well as to provide working conditions that are conducive to the workers. Two alternative layouts are proposed using the Systematic Layout Planning, which is a systematic way of generating layout alternatives. The proposed layouts are evaluated using the current layout and ARENA simulation software. The best alternative chosen based on the performance measures which have the most significant improvement which are total travel distance, total travel time, total travel cost and output. In line with the factory's future expansion and the company' overall diversification programme, the study also recommends that it embarks on a vertical integration by going into tapioca planting. This would ensure constant supply of raw materials, both in quantity and quality.","PeriodicalId":426671,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Symposium on Humanities, Science and Engineering Research","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129317067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
