{"title":"Communication and Politics: Giorgia Meloni, a Prime Minister between Pop Propaganda and Nationalism","authors":"Cinzia Cilento","doi":"10.4236/ajc.2023.112012","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4236/ajc.2023.112012","url":null,"abstract":"On 25 September, the Italian citizens have voted for the renewal of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic, political elections that gave as a result the victory of the centre - right coalition led by the leader of the 'Fratelli d'Italia' party, Giorgia Meloni. A month later, the incoming cabinet headed by Meloni opens a new Italian legislature, which despite reflecting the expression of the majority of Italians at the ballot box, is undeniably controversial, both at national and international level. Within the benches of Italian institutions, there are indeed nostalgics of fascism, religious fundamentalists, anti-abortionists, and opponents of the Lgbtqi+ community, members belonging to a party which aim is to bring Italians together in the name of a nationalist and sovereigntist conception. Understanding the communicative strategies and political language used by the leader to build up a distinctive and well - structured party identity as well as the propaganda undertaken over the years preceding her premiership, is necessary to analyse the rise of a nationalist perspective in the Italian political and social arena. The success of ‘ Fratelli d'Italia ’ cannot be examined without taking into account the role of Giorgia Meloni and her communicative skills based on epithets, intimate politics and pop and informal speeches, factors that, combined with her use of the leading social platforms such as Facebook, have contributed to expand the party's sphere of influence over time, gaining consensus to the extent of turning the party into the driving force of the Italian centre-right. Therefore, this project proposes to investigate the main characteristics of the political language used by Giorgia Meloni since 2020, year marked by a substantial appreciation growth among the electorate such as to overtake the ‘ Partito Democratico ’ , which belongs to left – wing and represents one of the mainstream players in the political arena. {"title":"Journalism and Communication Transformation in Thailand under the Disruption of Digital Technology in the 21st Century","authors":"Kamolrat Intaratat","doi":"10.4236/ajc.2021.94012","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4236/ajc.2021.94012","url":null,"abstract":"“Journalism and Communication Transformation in Thailand under the Disruption of Digital Technology in the 21st Century” aims to study: 1) The current situation relevant to competency development in Journalism & Communication in Thailand, and 2) The future demands relevant to competency development in Journalism & Communication in Thailand. Mix methods are quantitative research with e-questionnaire among 48 academia and qualitative researches by Focus Group Discussion among 10 stakeholders from all levels. Descriptive statistics and narration were used for data analysis. Findings and discussion are: 1) The current situation relevant to competency development in Journalism & Communication in Thailand found a) most of teachers working as the full-time basis in the public universities followed by the private universities; and b) subjects taught are General Communication, Media theories, Research, and Project-base implementation. 2) The future top demands relevant to competency development in Journalism & Communication in Thailand found: a) the importance task is “get information to the public quickly”; b) the position of journalists is “be transparent about the working process”; c) the un-acceptable professional ethics are; i) “claim to be somebody else”; ii); “use confidential government or personal documents without authorization”; and iii) “publish a story with unverified content”; d) the direction of professional journalism that should be “redefined” in the 21st century is: “more about social responsibility and less about earning money”; e) the qualifications of the journalists in the next Communication labour market for Journalism students within the next 10 years found most in “freelancing; and g) the qualification of the Journalism teachers in the next 10 years is “having knowledge in a specialised field”. The overall findings found aligned with the current demands of this digital disruption era, the functions of journalists, communicators acquiring the qualities of digital multimedia, digital multi-tasks or mastering with digital media capacity such as working with information via modern digital technologies.
